MSK practitioners

Our Musculoskeletal (MSK) Specialists are Physiotherapists who work at an enhanced level of practice to provide best possible care. They have undergone further specialist training to work alongside our GP's in the diagnosis and management of MSK problems. This may include arranging investigations, prescribing medication, supporting with lifestyle and exercise advice or onward referrals to other supporting services. In addition, they have been trained to identify other signs and symptoms that may look or sound like they are MSK, but could be something completely different.

As we head in to the summer months, it’s a useful time to highlight that we cannot help with medical issues if you are on holiday abroad. Remember to pack sun cream and a good first aid kit when travelling. Pharmacies in Europe can often help with minor illness such as ear ache or insect bites. In the event that you need medical assistance while on holiday, you should seek a local service and inform your insurance company as appropriate. We recommend you have adequate travel insurance. If you are travelling to a country in the Europe Economic Area (EEA), you can apply for a free UK Global Health Insurance Card (EHIC) which may give you access to free or reduced cost medical treatment. June is #NationalScoliosisAwarenessMonth, scoliosis is when a spine twists and curves to the side. We do not know why scoliosis happens in some people and not in others. Some patients have family members with scoliosis. Scoliosis can occur at any age, but most commonly it develops during early adolescence. This is a period of rapid growth when a child’s body starts to grow and becomes more adult. Treatment varies and might include physiotherapy, a brace, or surgery. Due to staff training four of our sites will be closed this afternoon (Park View, Tang Hall Lane, Victoria Way and Lavender Grove). We are running the same number of clinics as usual, but across the four other open sites this afternoon. You will be invited to Heworth Green, Fulford Surgery, Rawcliffe Surgery or Priory Medical Centre if needing a face to face appointment this afternoon. If you need to collect a blood form or prescription etc please use these sites if attending after lunch.
