Cherry Street

Services at Cherry Street (Clementhorpe Health Centre)

Due to front of house staff shortages we are temporarily suspending services at Cherry Street over the winter. This allows us to consolidate our staff and ensure we can continue to provide safe care to all of our patients.

As before, our patients registered at Cherry Street are welcome to use any of our other surgery sites where needed - many of our current Cherry Street patients attend Fulford Surgery, Lavender Grove or Priory Medical Centre.

Please do not leave prescriptions or samples at Cherry Street for the practice attention.

There will be no impact on our patients ability to access care, contact us in the usual ways: prioryCARE form, calling 01904 404100 or by speaking to one of the team at one of our other 8 surgery reception desks.

We know that a number of our patients are seeking injections for weight loss privately. We wanted to highlight a recent FSRH update regarding contraception. https://fsrh.org/Common/Uploaded%20files/documents/Patient-information-GLP-1-agonists-and-contraception.pdf ▶️ I am taking the pill. Will using a GLP-1 agonist affect my contraception? This depends on the type of GLP-1 agonist that you are using. If you are using tirzepatide you should use a barrier method of contraception (e.g. condoms) in addition to your pill for four weeks after starting the medication, and for four weeks after any increase in dose. This is because tirzepatide works slightly differently to the other GLP-1 agonists. Alternatively, you may wish to consider another (non-oral) method of contraception whilst using tirzepatide. There is currently no evidence that semaglutide, exenatide, liraglutide, dulaglutide or lixisenatide reduce the effectiveness of oral contraception (i.e. the combined pill, or the progestogen only pill/ “mini-pill”). ▶️ Can I take a GLP-1 agonist during pregnancy? It is important to use effective contraception whilst taking a GLP-1 agonist, as these medications should not be used in pregnancy. If you become pregnant whilst taking one of these medications it is important to discuss this with your doctor. GLP-1 agonists should also be avoided for a number of weeks prior to a planned pregnancy.

We wanted to share information about a new free weekly group supporting students who identify as female, are either struggling with their mental health or experiencing suicidal thoughts, or have friends or family who are. ▶️ Who is it open to? Lauren's Ladies is open to all students in North Yorkshire, aged 18+, and who identify as female. It's for those who may be experiencing and struggling with depressive or suicidal thoughts and who might want to speak to someone or have friends or family who are, make connections, and gain some support. ▶️ When is it? The first 5-week pilot group starts Wednesday 30th April, 10:30-12:00. ▶️ How to access? The group is free to join. It will be held in person at our Centre premises at 32-34 Clarence Street, on the York St John University campus. Lauren's Ladies has been created to honour the memory of our beautiful, clever and kind friend Lauren. Lauren never failed to bring the sunshine on a rainy day, her smile and infectious laugh brought joy and happiness to all lucky enough to meet her. However, Lauren was battling demons that no one knew about and heartbreakingly chose to take her own life in August 2023, aged just 22. Lauren was the 'cheerleader' friend, bringing encouragement and support to her friends. We want to embody that energy with Lauren's Ladies and show you that you are loved, we've got you, and you are not alone." - Kayleigh and Cheryl, Co-founders of Lauren’s Ladies ▶️ How they can help? In the group you will have the opportunity to share your experience and talk about your thoughts and feelings with others who may be going through something similar. The sessions are a non-judgemental space where everyone can talk, listen, and support each other. There will also be an experienced facilitator and 2 peer supports, who will be there to provide further support. As part of the group, you will be asked to complete some clinical forms and a short survey when you finish, which will be anonymous and will help us to evaluate the effectiveness of the group.
